Let’s practice in reading Russian words
Video tutorial Learn Russian Language on May 28th, 2009
Here we will remember how to pronounce Russian letters and how to read Russian words.
We will try to read few examples of Russian words.
Also you will learn how to use words in plural form. For example word “книга” means a book – and word “книги” means books. “И” or “Ы” is used at the end of the word for plural form (in English we use letter “s” for this purpose).
what software do you use to make these video tutorials
Thanks
I’ve used Camtasia.
there are two videos playing at same time!
r, you could pause one of them.. Or you can click to the lesson title and open one video lesson in a separate window.
I’ve recently found your videos and I find them very useful when learning about the Russian language. Naturally, I’m a beginner. It seems to me that it obviously makes it easier to know the alphabet (Duh). And surprisingly there is an assortment of English and Russian words that are very similar in composition. Thank you for the videos and I hope you do continue.
Hi, just watched all of your videos and they’re really helpful! I just have one question, why is letter O sometimes pronounced like A? Thanks
David, great question. It’s the way it is.. You can read SOBAKA (СОБАКА, собака, dog) like SABAKA or SOBAKA and try to hear the difference. It’s very hard to hear i think. That’s why if don’t know the words it’s hard to write them without mistakes. You’ll be often not sure if there is “А” letter or “О”. But sometimes it’s easy to check it – if you no how to pronounce similar words. For example word H(А,О)ГА’ – But plural form of this word is НО’ГИ – so it’s НОГА. (’ – means accent.)
Hi there, i have a question about the letters. I have noticed that there isn’t a “W” or an “H” in Russian, what could I use, if anything for those?
Thanks,
Guy
Guy, W – is a special English letter – in russian we only have letter “В” that sounds simular to english V or W.
English H in russian is written as “Х”. And russian “Н” is sound like english “N”.
There are no letters written like W or N in russian.
Oh, ok, thanks!
