I'm trying to give translation where the word is often used one and easy-translatable. For example "люди" - "lyudi (ludi)" - "people" But "подъезд" is rare word - but good example where "ъ" used. It means something like entrance , front door.. I think you don't need to know it right now. "езд" - this is from word "ездить" or "езда" - it means something like riding or moving.
